The collection consists of the correspondence and other papers of Chester F. Bruce, member of the Connecticut Valley Red Men's Council, Old Deerfield Conference, and Secretary of that Conference's "Indian on the Trail" Committee. The papers detail the commission, building, and placement of the "Hail to the Sunrise" statue in Charlemont, Massachusetts. His later papers detail fund raising and newsletter initiatives. The remainder of the collection consists of newsletters of the Red Men, from 1917 to 1947. The bulk of the newsletters are from the decade of the 1920s. The newletters, with few exceptions, are from the Connecticut River Valley area of Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
